STÉPHANE GUERTIN • Managing and artistic director
A graduate of the University of Ottawa in theatre, Stéphane Guertin has worked in theatre, music, dance and circus arts for the past fifteen years. First a lyrical singer under the direction of Mrs. Fernande Chiochio, Stéphane then worked as a performer in some fifty productions in theatre, musical theatre, television and cinema. He is also the author of twelve plays and creator of the television series Motel Monstre and Écoute-ça and has been writing comedy opinion columns on TFO for the past five years. From 2003 to 2008, he made his mark in multidisciplinary mixes as a choreographer, director and author in residence at Productions Multisens. His desire to create a theatre without borders led him to found Improtéine (2002), the Théâtre du Souffleur (2003) and then Créations In Vivo, of which he has been the managing and artistic director since 2007. This multidisciplinary theatre company has won the Ontario Presenters’ “Coup de foudre” award three times: C’est arrivé à Sainte-Utopie (2007), La pluie de bleuets (2008) and Légendes boréales (2011). In 2011, Stéphane composed and co-directed the youth music album Autour de la pluie, which is the first Franco-Ontarian album to be nominated at the Adisq in the “best youth album” category in 2012. The album also won the Trilles Or award for youth artist. In September 2013, Stéphane represented Canada as a storyteller at the 7th” Jeux de la francophonie internationale” in Nice, France, where he won the gold medal. Since then, his storytelling career has taken off and brought him to the four corners of the world, notably with La cadence du conteteur and Vie et mort d’un char boiteux. In 2014, he won the Ontario Heritage Award for his work in promoting Ontario’s heritage here and abroad. In 2017, he was appointed Ontario Heritage Ambassador by the Réseau du patrimoine franco-ontarien (RPFO).

Sylvain holds a Master’s degree in Sociology specializing in cultural mediation, and studied sociology of communication, arts and culture at the University of Toulouse II – Le Mirail and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo (ON). Sylvain is very involved in the Franco-Ontarian theatre community and the National Capital Region, representing theatre companies and centres on the Board of Directors (BOD) of Théâtre Action from 2010 to 2014. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Théâtre de Dehors. Loving hats, Sylvain wears several hats.
